Cars & Coffee – Van Alstyne

Have you been to the Coffee & Cars - Van Alstyne show? If not, you really should! It's one of the unique events that Van Alstyne offers that makes our town such a fabulous place to live!

What a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning for the 1st of April.  My 2 teenage sons (Joshua and Michael) and my husband all got up early to go to the Cars & Coffee – Van Alstyne event in downtown Van Alstyne.  We arrived there about 8:45AM.  The car show started at 8AM. I highly recommend getting there early because some cars were already leaving when we arrive.  This event is a fantastic family friendly car show where you can reminisce about the old cars and see new ones too.

There were was a super nice light blue convertible V12 Aston Martin that my sons adored.  And a really fun looking white 1966 Volvo 1800S.  Did you know that the Volvo 1800S originally sold for less than $4,000 (I love it when the owners bring historical information about the cars for us to read).  We saw quite a few American Muscle Cars: Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaro’s, Chargers, and GTO’s.  I saw a Ford Fairlane 500 (in my favorite color – purple), two Chevy Impalas and even a car that had a 3rd row seat that faced the back window (this was one of those things my sons have heard about but never saw in person).  There were lots of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles out at the car show today.

Chevrolet 210 (Two-Ten)

We saw a Chevrolet 210 (or Two-Ten) at the show.  There weren’t any badges on the car, so as we were admiring it, the owner came by and we were able to learn about the Chevy 210.  We initially thought it might have been a Chevy Bel Air, but learned it was Chevy 210.  Chevy built the 210 as a more affordable car option to the Chevy Bel Air.  What impressed my sons the most was the tail-light gas cap.  The owner opened up the tail-light gas cap, and wow, they were amazed!!   It reminded me of the 1st time they saw an actual pay phone.  Seeing things that you’ve only heard or read about in person, like the pay phone, tail-light gas cap, or back facing 3rd row seats, sure does make an impression on the younger generation.  I’m so thankful we have these car shows to see the history of cars from the Ford Model A’s to the modern-day sports cars.

Ford Falcon Sedan Delivery

We saw a rare Ford Falcon Sedan Delivery.  I enjoyed talking to the owner and learning about his car.  Sadly, I can’t remember what year the car was built, I want to say it was a 1963, but I’m not sure.  This Ford Falcon Sedan Delivery had limited production and there were less than 170 made.  It was beautifully restored and had a power rear window instead of the manual hand crank on the back of the car.  I looked up on the internet to see the original hand crank – it was so strange to see because the crank was on the outside of the car (not on the inside).  The owner lives in Howe (he builds custom cabinets) and I’m sure he will bring his Ford Falcon Sedan Delivery to another car show in Van Alstyne.  I’ll have to get more details when I see the car again!

Chevrolet Nomad

The owner of the 1955 Chevrolet Nomad, Charlie, was super nice to talk to us about his Nomad.  He didn’t have any badges on his car, so we were trying to figure out what vehicle it was.  His interior on his Nomad was amazing and impeccable.  He said that his interior won best in show for a car show last year.  He was so nice and let my son sit in the car so we could take a picture.  The engine on his Nomad was so clean.  It sure was impressive, and while I’m not a fan of station wagons (mainly because I grew up in the 70’s and thought most of them were ugly), the Nomad and Ford Falcon Sedan Delivery could convert me into a fan!

No matter how many cars come out on the 1st Saturday of the month, it’s always nice to get up early, grab some coffee and talk to people about their cars.  You will learn some history and spend some quality time with your family & friends. Cars & Coffee – Van Alstyne is just one of the wonderful & unique events that happen in Van Alstyne to make our city a fabulous place to live!
